Ever since the earliest lockdowns, an increasing number of people have turned to relaxing outdoor activities such as golf, tennis, and yes ... even fishing.

Those sports have been around for ages of course and they're all perfect to interact with one another amongst a healthy dose of fresh air. These activities grew in popularity out of necessity to have any human interaction with other parties outside of your own four walls, and maybe that's how they've also grown to acclaim in everyone's wardrobe. Need proof? Just look at the many collaborations and inspiration in menswear today. From Todd Snyder collaborating with golf brand Footjoy, Reigning Champ partnering with cult-favorite tennis publication Racquet Magazine and the gentleman angler styles seen at luxe brands like Drake's and P.Johnson.

The Angler's vest from P.Johnson's latest collection makes for an ideal summer layer, whether you fish or not. Sure, it includes genuine details (rod loops, D-ring gear lugs and a back game bag to help balance the load on your shoulders), but it is also just a cool, technical piece that has the utilitarian and workwear vibes that remain at the forefront of men's fashion right now. Even far from the stream, it can be worn with your favorite pair of vintage denim or layered underneath a jacket. We caught up with designer Patrick Johnson to see what he's been eyeing lately to pair with his vest.
“The design is still very clean and allows for normal utility use. We also made it shorter so it can be kneeled in easily. For angling, it's great with an ultralight nylon ripstop quarter-zip or fishing shirt and matching shorts.”

“I admire it when the outdoor life is referenced elegantly in the core wardrobe or with genuine purpose. Some outdoorsy garments slide into normal use nicely with a kind of irony or strange sort of harmony, others don't so much. It's a delicate thing. It's nice to think we can bring a little of our weekend life into the weekday if that is real and it makes us happy. Why not?”
