This week, the Premier League soccer team Manchester City teased a new “Smart Scarf.” Designed in partnership with Cisco, the new “Connected Scarf” is powered by an “EmotiBit” sensor that tracks the wearer’s heart rate, body temperature and emotional state. After completing an initial pilot program to test the device, Manchester City and Cisco invited six fans to watch the team play while wearing the scarf. During the match, the scarf recorded data from 120 ‘moments of interest.’ Cisco chief technology officer Chintan Patel explained that by using the data his team will, “be able to understand fans more than ever before.” Cisco hopes to launch the scarf during the next season, though only time will tell how deeply this accessory can really change the game.
